FIVE NEW WAYS TO ENJOY BLUEBERRIES

Don't let those blue beauties go to waste! It is true that if you grow and harvest your own blueberries not many make it in the house. Of course there are the old standby blueberry muffins and blueberry smoothies, but this sweet little fruit that we love in our Wild Blueberry Blume Honey Water has other versatile uses!

Here are 5 new ways to use fresh blueberries...'tis the season!

  1. Blueberry French Toast. It is the best way to enjoy foods before they’re beyond saving. A day old baguette studded with ripe blueberries? It’s real. And it’s real good.

  2. No Cook Oats. Prepare this no-cook oatmeal in the evening, and it will be ready to eat by morning. Combine rolled oats, milk, blueberries, maple syrup and vanilla extract. Come morning drizzle with honey for a delicious breakfast.

  3. Blueberry Syrup. Easy to make with kids and just three ingredients! About 1 pint of fresh blueberries, 1 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Combine the blueberries and sugar in a saucepan. Add 1 cup water and the lemon juice. Bring to a boil over high heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes, or until it thickens. Remove from heat and strain through a fine sieve. Cool to room temperature, cover and refrigerate.

  4. Simple Salad. Greens, fruit, cheese, nuts. For a healthy, quick salad you often don’t even need a recipe. Find whatever greens you have, toss in blueberries (or any berries or sliced fruit); cube, grate or crumble the cheese of your choice and then sprinkle with whatever nuts or seeds you have on hand. Ta-da!

  5. Freeze for Later Blues. Sometimes there are too many to enjoy right now. Blueberries are one of the easiest fruits to freeze. Wash, drain, let them air dry a bit, spread out on a baking sheet in a single layer, pop in the freezer overnight and then transfer your solid blue berry balls into a freezer bag for later use.

Consider all the times of day and different uses for your blueberry bounty. And of course this idea needs no direction: pop blueberries into your mouth anytime for a fresh, fast snack.
